#bluegetittoo Male Breast Cancer Photographic Campaign and Short Film

In November 2018, my Partner, Richard, was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer, which had spread to his lymph nodes, lungs and liver. He had just turned 40. Our lives changed forever.

When I spoke of Richards diagnosis, the response I would get from people was “Male Breast Cancer?….is that a thing?"

At the age of 11, Richard had developed a lump under his right nipple, which GP’s dismissed as nothing and in his late 30’s after several visits to various GP'S, he was again told “it’s nothing, I can categorically tell you that will never turn to Cancer!"

At diagnosis the metastatic tumour under Richard’s right nipple, was 5.5cm in diameter and had spread via his lymph nodes, to his lungs and liver.

Treatment started immediately, with 7 rounds of Chemotherapy over 8 months, alongside a targeted antibody treatment, which he will have in hospital, every three weeks, for the rest of his life.

My journey with Richard, during his on going treatment, has lead me to meet some inspiring and wonderful individuals.

The first time I met Amanda, was at the Sunrise Chemotherapy Unit in High Wycombe hospital. I told her how beautiful she was. When she discovered I’m a Celebrity Make-up Artist and Portrait Photographer, she asked me if I would make her up and photograph her for her personal journal, scars and all. Amanda and her Breast Cancer group of friends were desperate to lend their support to us.

It dawned on me, that with my creative skills and turning pain into passion, I could create something visually very empowering. A photographic campaign, scars and all, raw, real, tasteful images of Breast Cancer heroes, to visually help raise awareness of Male Breast Cancer and early detection, not only aimed at the general public, but as a wake up call to GP’s. So with the willing help of the wonderful group I call my BREAST FRIENDS, I created in its entirety, #bluegetittoo

There are around 400 men diagnosed each year with Breast Cancer in the UK, this compares to around 54,800 cases in women

We are parents with Sons.

No Son, Brother, Father or friend, no one male or female should have to be told “you’ve got an incurable Cancer”

Men must check their chests too, there is no shame, we are all made the same.

Breast cancer is not just pink, blue get it too and if this visual campaign saves one man, or woman’s life, then I’ve found our purpose.

I have faith my campaign entitled #bluegetittoo will grow organically, through word of mouth, Social Media and mainstream Media avenues and hope for evolution of our cause.

#bluegetittoo is not a charity, it is a non profit Awareness Campaign self funded, created and designed by me and my passion and supported by those who care.
